Furnalelor Street and the surrounding area, about half a century ago. – that is, a walk through a living gallery – “alive” – of houses and heritage sites, yesterday and today at the invitation of Andrei Szabo from the Association “EUROLAND Banat”.
I was able to watch a unique mini exhibition of old photos displayed in the windows of the houses on Furnalelor Street. Most of them are even pictures of those houses and so you can see how they looked 50-60 years ago and what they look like now (sometimes the modernization interventions did not help at all).
The exhibition was made possible by the contribution of Mr. Iancsi MATO who provided negatives with images from the archive inherited from his father, the photographer Ioan Mato, negatives scanned and printed by Andrei Bălbărău from the Museum of Amateur Filmmakers in Resita. Other images were searched through old archives and albums or online by Andrei Szabo.
Furnalelor Street at 13B is the building of the former PITTNER School, a building declared a historic monument since 2015, which has unfortunately reached an advanced state of degradation, but which with little chance, in the next 3-4 years will be restored by the project “Restoration and revitalization of cultural heritage Exhibition and event center Pittner School, Resita Municipality” which is run by Resita City Hall, Euroland Banat Association and Listahópurinn RÖSK Association in Iceland.
At this heartfelt event, Andrei Szabo said a few words, thanking the inhabitants of Furnalelor Street who agreed to display the old images in the windows of the houses.
This living gallery on Furnalelor Street is, at the same time, our thanks to those who make their personal archives available to the general public, to those who translate them into digital format and to all those who support these actions.
Mrs. Ada Cruceanu-Chisăliță made a brief reference to the history of the old neighborhoods of Resita, neighborhoods that grew up near the factory and as always we had the opportunity to find out new information because Mrs. Ada, among many other fields, is passionate about history Resita.
Because all the cultural events of this year were covered under the umbrella of the 250th anniversary of the Resita industry, Mr. Erwin Josef Țigla (President of the German Democratic Forum in Caras-Severin) presented Andrei Szabo with a “Resita 250” anniversary medal.
Miriam Vîlceanu, the project manager from Reșița City Hall, spoke about the stage of the Pittner School rehabilitation project, announcing the press conference for the launch of the Pittner School rehabilitation project.
Representatives of Listhópurinn Rösk, Akureyri, Iceland, will also be present at the press conference on Friday, July 23, 2021. (Maybe by then there will be a little order in the Pittner School yard because we couldn’t visit her this time.)
In the Facebook gallery you can see some images from the event on Furnalelor Street.
